This class is a great introduction to painting and experimenting with pen and wash techniques. Pen and wash are a beautiful contrast with some precise bold lines and whimsical colour washing over. Or occasionally a bolder colour look. This class explores the fundamentals to drawing with a dip pen and fineliner, followed by and we create 2 different paintings - still life and a landscape.
We will explore mixing colours and how we apply the paint in different ways, to really simplify the process. Plus you’ll have a couple of masterpieces at the end!

Why this class?
Inks are so versatile - great for those that love precision and detail, and great for those that love loose, bold effects - and those in between. If you’ve tried watercolours and/or acrylics and fancy a new challenge, this is a great one! If you’re more versed in pencil, this is a good step up for you. Or if you just like to experiment, we cover that too!
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, but you’re more than welcome to bring your own refreshments too (wine is allowed!)
Venue
The venue is in my new studio in Busby, Glasgow. It’s a 10 minute walk from Busby Train Station and the number 6 bus stops nearby too. There is free parking outside the venue.
Unfortunately the room is on the first floor with no lift access. My sincere apologies if this is a barrier to you attending.
Timings
Class will start promptly at 2pm, so please arrive 5 minutes early to allow for settling in. Class will end at 5pm.
Materials List
All materials are provided. However, if you’d prefer to use your own so you can learn to work with what you’ve got at home, you’re more than welcome to bring them along. Here’s what we’ll be using:
- Watercolour paint (pans or tubes)
- Watercolour paintbrushes
- Waterproof inks
- Watercolour paper / thick cartridge paper
- Pot of water
- Masking Tape
- Scrap paper
- Mixing palette (you might have one in your watercolours, or a plate does just fine too!)
- Kitchen roll / Towel for drying your brush
- Pencil and rubber
If you’d like any advice or suggestions, I’ve put my favourite materials here.
Cancellation policy
Fingers crossed there won’t be any disruptions to class, but in the case the class needs to be cancelled, I’ll offer a full refund or transfer to another class. If you have purchased a ticket and can no longer make it, I have a 72 hour cancellation policy. If cancelled more than 72 hours before, I’ll offer a full refund or transfer to another class, but unfortunately if within the 72 hours and I’m unable to fill the spot (I will try the waiting list!) then I can’t offer a refund.
