I first started painting this when I got home from a spa weekend. We’d just had a lovely relaxing break and I came back with such a vigour to paint, that I went straight to the studio, rather than going home.
The leaves had just started turning colour on the trees and the air changed to be that little more crisp. We all know Scotland’s temperamental weather but in the process of painting this over the month, the change in nature was beautiful.
I find it quite a peaceful time of year - not quite the juggle of summer holidays and excitement of sun and ice cream, and not quite the juggle of Christmas shopping and festive activities. We’ve still got the bright sunshine and it’s light when we wake up in the morning. I think the huge change in energy Autumn brings us is felt in this painting. I’m highly sensitive to energies, emotions and colour. Creating this has encompassed all of that.
About the process
The painting was completed in Acrylics, with a satin varnish. I used a limited colour palette of only cadmium red, cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue and white where I distinguished depth, texture and light. A wholly enjoyable experience.
Deep-edge canvas measures 60cm wide, 90cm high and 3.5cm deep (and is supplied unframed). As the edge is painted white it doesn't necessarily need framed to look good as a feature piece in your room.
Due to all the textures and layers, it’s a painting that keeps giving you more - more to see or feel. If you’d like to visit the studio to see it in personal, please don’t hesitate to email and book an appointment.
